We use dryers on daily bases and don't realize that dryer could be a fire hazard if not properly maintained. In 2010 there were an estimated 16,800 fires caused by clothes dryers, costing homeowners over $230 million in damages.

What can I do to prevent a dryer fire?
Before and after each drying cycle make sure to clean out the lint filter. Even though this lint filter was designed to catch lint and prevent it from getting inside the dryer, it doesn't stop all lint. Keep an eye on that lint filter, as it gets older the felt at the edges might come lose or net might rip or detach at the edge. If there's damage to the lint filter, replace it as soon as possible. Have an appliance company service your dryer at least once a year.

Appliance Repair Ace is offering $50 discount on Dryer Preventative Maintenance Service. Regular Price is $94.99 with special its only $45.99. Check the back of your dryer to make sure the vent hose is not kinked or smashed, any blockage will create fire hazardous conditions in the dryer. Check the vent exhaust opening outside of your house, the rain chute sometimes can get stuck in the closed position preventing proper airflow. Clean out any visible lint surrounding exhaust opening outside of the house. Never run appliances without supervision. Some people turn on the dryers before they go to sleep, or before they leave the house. In case if anything goes wrong, there always should be someone around to stop the unit. If the unit caught on fire or has electrical sparks, it is safer to turn off your unit at the breaker. Empty out all pockets before putting clothes in the dryer. For small undergarments use special drying bag – small items might get through the small openings into the motor compartment. Do not operate dryer without lint filter For gas dryers make sure to have all gas pipes inspected and serviced at least once every 3 years.

Things to watch out for:
If it takes longer to dry your clothes (2 or 3 cycles), there’s a problem with the dryer. To avoid any danger, contact your local appliance company. Appliance Repair Ace is serving local Orange County Communities. You could hear motor running but the tub is not spinning or tumbling. Some dryers do not have “broken belt sensor”, in the event if your belt is ripped the motor could be still running and fire mechanism activated without clothes tumbling and fan running will cause fire damage to the unit. Watch for any irregular noise coming from the dryer or burning smell. Watch for any water leaks around the dryer.
